De Arasta Bazaar aan de zuidoostkant van de Blauwe Moskee van Istanbul is zeker een bezoek waard vanwege de vele winkels die tapijten, kelims, Turkse tegels, kleding en souvenirs verkopen. Een arasta een reeks winkels onder of in de buurt van een moskee. De huur van de winkels levert geld op voor het onderhoud en de reperatie van de moskee. Jarenlang stonden deze winkels leeg, totdat het toerisme eind jaren tachtig opkwam in Istanbul. De verantwoordelijken raakte ervan overtuigd dat het beter was om de winkels op te knappen en te verhuren. Nu is de Arasta Bazaar een van de meest bezochte toeristenmarkten van Istanbul.
Aan het noordoostelijke uiteinde van de bazaar vind je verschillende openluchtcafés, snackkraampjes en restaurants. Ook kun je meteen een bezoekje brengen aan het Mozaïekmuseum, dat zich onder de Arasta bevindt.

5. Antieke boek markt (Sahaflar Carsisi) – Beyazit

De bazaar, die zich in een smalle en lange straat achter de Beyazit-moskee bevindt, was in de Ottomaanse tijd een plek die werd gebruikt door madrasa-studenten, maar tegenwoordig is het een plek geworden waar je allerlei soorten tweedehands boeken kan vinden. Na de aardbeving en brandrampen onderging de bazaar in 1952 een grote restauratie.

De Vrouwenbazaar is gelegen in Unkapani, in het Fatih district. Dit is een geweldige plek waar je lokale gerechten van zeer goede kwaliteit kan vinden uit de zuidoostelijke steden van Turkije, zoals Siirt, Adiyaman, Mardin, Diyarbakir, Bitlis en Mus.
Ook vind je hier ontzettend veel kruiden waar je misschien nog nooit eerder van hebt gehoord. Je proeft ze bij de gebakjes die daar met deze kruiden worden gemaakt. De honingkraampjes zijn ook aantrekkelijk en er is een verscheidenheid aan kaas en kaasproducten.
